Kudos to Elizabeth Rodriguez on her exhibition at Bihl Haus Arts, “On the Eve of Consciousness.” I had the pleasure of meeting Elizabeth several months back. She has been a regular exhibitor at the Brick Marketplace Sunday happening. She keeps a fabulous collection of vintage clothing there on a semi-regular basis, terribly stylish and always tempting. Over time, we struck up an acquaintance and had several wonderful conversations, some of them delving into deep waters. I knew that she had worked with her former husband, artist Jesse Treviño, but she never mentioned that she was preparing her own body of work for an upcoming show.
It was with delight that I read Elda Silva’s review of the show in the San Antonio Express-News. In a wonderfully detailed piece, Elda delves into the artist’s life and works, interviewing not only Rodriguez, but Bihl Haus director Kellen McIntyre. On April 18, 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., there will be readings, discussion and book signing to celebrate the publication of Her Texas: Image, Poem & Song. Featured guests include Donna Walker-Nixon, Rachel Crawford, Cassy Burleson, Rosemary Catacalos, Jan Seale, Carmen Tafolla, Frances Trevino Santos and many more.
Stop in to see the show while you have the opportunity. It closes on May 8. Later in May, we look forward to the opening of “Nature on the Edge: Mutation and Hybridity in 21st Century Art” curated by David S. Rubin, May 22 – July 11. Leigh Anne Lester is one of the featured artists for this exhibition.
